Late fall and early winter the waters on
the Atlantic side of the Florida
Keys come alive with sailfish. Followed closely by the anglers to
try
and catch them. Dolphin can be found in the warm waters of the Gulf stream any time of year but April through August the fishing is the
best. The average dolphin weighs about 5 lbs. but can go up to 35 - 40 lbs. Once located dolphin can be caught by trolling or casting. A good
place to find them is around patches of Sargasso seaweed. Trolling with
the use of outriggers is the usual method. But kite fishing is starting
to come into its own in the Florida Keys and Key West. With it you can Place your bait a long way from the boat and not directly behind it. Plus
you can spot and keep other fish from taking your bait. Each charter
