The northern most dive site in the marine sanctuary that is dove on
a regular basis is Carysfort Reef. This site got its name from the H.M.S.
Carysfort. A British ship that grounded on it in 1770. You may have to
Check with various dive shops to find one that offers this dive, and
fits your time table.
Near the light shallow corals grow making this area for snorkeling.
The corals thin out as the water gets deeper. The bottom is limestone
and sand as the depth increases to about 35 feet. Then you find a steep
drop to about 65 feet. The near wall is loaded with coral colonies. At
the base of the reef you have a channel at 100 feet. Then you have the
offshore reef rising back up to 35 feet, with it dropping back off on the
far side again. Because this reef is off the beaten path you will find you
have it mostly to yourselves even on the busy weekends.
