Key West Information Smathers Beach
|
Smathers Beach is the most popular one in
Key West. It has just finishing
up getting a major face lift. With a seawall, tons of sand, and major
landscaping it is truly a picture perfect setting. I still recommend beach
shoes the water is very sallow for about 100 yards with a soft bottom.
Because the water is sallow it great for the little kids. For those to small
to snorkel, a fun activity is buy a clear plastic tub or bowl with side about
4" high. They can walk around in the water looking into the bowl, getting
a clear view of the bottom. A word of caution never use glass in the water
if it breaks it is invisible. Remember it is never to early to instill a sense
of
stewardship of nature and the environment with kids.

Vendors line the street at one end
of the beach offering food and drink.
A long view of the
whole beach.
