Mendoza lives and works in the island city of Key West in South Florida. When
he began sculpting various creatures including wading birds, pelicans, fish,
and dolphins from driftwood, he received immediate acclaim. Utilizing the
talent inherited from his Mayan ancestors and his natural facility with wood,
he makes special figures which live in or near the seas surrounding Florida.
Isaias coaxes grace from the ocean driftwood in a distinctive way which
celebrates the natural environment and majestic, indigenous marine life of
Florida.
