unimportant on the island of Key West on the southernmost tip of America.

The CORAL REEFER is a 28' boat with a 10' beam, custom
built in Key West. It has a private cutty cabin with toilet, a large T-top for
shade and the top of the cutty cabin is a sunning and observation deck for great
viewing of the dolphins. There are two (2) swim platforms with steps for easy
entry and exit from the water. There is a fresh water rinse to freshen yourself
up after snorkeling. There is seating for six. We take a maximum of six (6)
passengers per trip. It is powered by twin 130HP Honda eco-friendly, four stroke
engines for a quick trip to the dolphin playgrounds.
We provide: ice chests with ice for any food and
drinks you would want to bring, mask, fins, and snorkel with instructions if
needed, "noodles" for easy flotation for those who desire it.
Let us customize a trip
to suit your needs and desires. You Plan the Day.
The most important thing for you to bring is POLARIZED
SUNGLASSES to cut the glare on the water to see the dolphins better. You may
also want to bring some of the same things you would take to the beach: swim
suit, hat, lotion sunblock (no oil base), long sleeved cover up, warm clothing
in winter, cameras, towels, and whatever else you like.

We generally find dolphins daily in a sandy bottomed
area about 10' - 15' deep. We call this large area the Dolphin Playground
where they are constantly on the move in search of fish to eat and doing the
things dolphins do. It's called the playground because dolphins do like to
play a lot. |
|
| These are WILD dolphins in their
natural habitat doing what they want to do. Our encounters observe them on
their terms and depend on what they are doing and their mood. Encounters
happen on nearly every trip, however, there is no way that we can guarantee
it. We are bound by the laws of The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 and
subsequent amendments, in addition to the laws of the State of Florida. By
the law's suggestions or guidelines, we may only watch any one group of
dolphins for about 30 minutes from the boat from about 50 yards so that
feeding, mating, nursing their babies, etc., is not disrupted. We are not
allowed to feed or harass dolphins. |

|

|
 |
Pursuing wild dolphins, swimming after, touching
them, even though they sometimes may come close enough, is considered
harassment by the MMPA and is punishable by law. We snorkel and swim in the
Gulf of Mexico where dolphins range. If dolphins approach you while
snorkeling (as opposed to you approaching them) the law suggests that you
enjoy the moment of close encounter and then go back to the boat. Because
dolphins are almost always on the move, they usually move away fairly
quickly, which makes going back unnecessary. |
| A maximum of six passengers per trip
reduces the impact on dolphins. Like so many situations in nature, the more
people want an experience, the more opportunity we have to disrupt the
natural order. Sometimes dolphins may get agitated by our presence so we
move away to find a different group or go on to snorkeling a coral reef or
exploring the back country. Often we are able to return and see dolphins
again or find a different group. |
