Dec 5, 2007
With weeks to go before the final entry deadline, the entry list for Acura Key West 2008, presented by Nautica is already long on talent and strong on international and national representation. And the traditional last minute crush of entries is yet to descend. It will only get better.

Key West Snorkeling

FAQ's What should I bring when I go Snorkeling?
These answers are general about Snorkeling and not specific to this vendor.

You do not have to bring a lot with you, but there are some things you should not
forget. Suntan lotion is a must. Even if it is an over cased day in the winter months
you are still getting more UV rays then you are used to, and you can burn very easily.
I usually recommend a water proof sun tan lotion. The ones scuba divers use is very good.
While you are snorkeling you are just floating on your stomach and the water is clear
so you are getting a lot of rays and you don't feel it.
Sunglasses will make the trip out to the reef and back a lot more comfortable. You will
notice a lot of glare off the water. If you have good polarize glasses you will be surprised
what you may see on the way out and back because they let you see though the glare
on the water. One tip on sunglasses. On a lot of boat trips you will have the opportunity
to get souvenirs photos that make a real nice keepsake for everyone in the group is in
it plus the Key West time stamp. Be sure to remove your glasses for the photo op. I have
seen so many great pictures of people but with the glasses on you can barely tell who they
are. Most photographers will ask you to take them off but not always.
Towels are one thing a lot of people forget. During the winter months it can be quite chilly
sailing back to Key West if you are wet. A sweat shirt is not a bad idea if you are taking a
sunset snorkel trip. Once the sun goes down it does cool off. To my great surprise I am
always hearing that a lot of people forget their Swimsuits. Unless you are on a clothing
optional boat and we have a few you must wear a bathing suit.
Above all else bring an under water camera. The cheap disposable kind work just fine.
You will get some great shots of your snorkeling trip in Key West. Most boats sell them
at the check in booths but you will find they are a lot cheaper at Wall Greens or CVS.
Some Tips: Just like shooting pictures on land always keep the sun to your back. You
will pick up a lot more color that way. Driving down and shooting up you can get some great
shots of your friends silhouetted against the sun with rays of sunlight streaking though the water.
