My name is Arlene Mira; I am a registered nurse and a native of Key West. I started Scrubs of Key West in 1994 in a one-bedroom house. I had two home sewing machines and my dining room table was my cutting surface. I would make my rounds to all the local doctor's offices and sell my scrubs. The bright vibrant patterns caught on quickly.
In
the summer of 1998 I opened a store in Key West. Today we still live in a
one-bedroom house but we have a storefront in the Historic District of down town
Key West. Our store is large enough for our 16 foot cutting table along with all
of our sewing equipment.
My husband is now my partner; my sister and mother are seamstresses. We are truly a "Mom and Pop" business.
