3 Day Basic Cruising Class
Basic Cruising
Students will learn to responsibly skipper and crew an auxiliary
powered cruising sailboat during daylight hours within sight of land in
moderate wind and sea conditions.
Classes are taught aboard our
Irwin 34
powered by an inboard auxiliary diesel engine. You will build upon the
skills gained in the smaller keelboats as you become familiar with
cruising boats which have more comfortable accommodations and more complex
systems. You will advance your skill level in sail trim, reefing, crew
coordination, boat systems, chart reading, tides and currents, anchoring,
rules of the road and more.
Certification at this level will allow you to sail an auxiliary
powered cruising sailboat, taking friends or family daysailing to explore
the coastline and its harbors.
3 Day Basic Cruising Course consists of 3 days of classroom and
sailing instruction. Class size is limited to 4, minimum of 2 students and
offered weekly Mon.-Wed and Thurs-Sat 9AM to 4PM. Graduates are awarded
US SAILING
Basic Cruising Certification.
Prerequisite: US SAILING Basic Keelboat Certification
3 Day Bareboat Cruising
Bareboat Cruising
Students will learn to responsibly skipper, crew or bareboat charter
an inboard auxiliary powered cruising sailboat within sight of land to a
port or an anchorage during daylight hours in moderate to strong wind
and sea conditions.
This is the major goal of many sailors; to be able to bareboat
charter or cruise with confidence. This certification opens the door to
the beautiful world of tropical destinations and advances you to larger
boats capable of longer passages.
Classes are taught aboard our C&C 36 sloop powered by an auxiliary
diesel engine and nicely equipped for this course. You will polish your
sailing skills, work with boat systems, tow a dinghy, learn advanced
anchoring techniques and coastal navigation in preparation for bareboat
chartering.
Successfully complete this level and you'll be ready to set sail
on weekend cruises or bareboat charter at exotic tropical destinations.
You will be confident in your level of sailing skills and boating
competence.
3-Day Bareboat Cruising Class is offered weekly Thurs. - Sat.
