Key West recruits gay spring-breakers

A new trend is now taking place in Key West this spring break. As some of the business leaders are trying to and add a nitch to the islands tourist appeal with Gay Spring Break. Even though the city in the past has not tried and even discouraged marketing to the college crowd. Gay Spring Break 2007 gets into high gear with same sex body contest, barbecues and pool parties. Hoping to get the college Students hooked on Key West so they will keep coming back after they entering the work force.

The events go on every day for month of March. For a full list of what is happening Check out:

The official Gay Spring Break street party featuring the hottest DJs, live entertainment, dancers, and street vendors. This is one event that can’t be missed! All Day 700 Block of Duval Street Key West

With Florida State University, the University of Florida and the University of Miami schools out this week making this week the peak of the spring break season. The South Florida tourism bureaus have not catered to the college students since the 1980's when Fort Lauderdale discouraging them from coming. Most consider the college student as looking for cheap accommodation, Fast Food and Beer. Some in Key West hope the Gay Spring Breakers will be a more lucrative and manageable group. Many gay web sites have ranked Key West as the top gay spring break destination.

The tourism bureau charged with promoting Key West does not support the spring-break campaign launched by the local Business Guild, saying it prefers older vacationers who spend more money - regardless of sexual orientation. Now we get a chance to see if Key West can learn to like these new gay spring breakers.

With Key West hotel rooms a little more than most college student pay out some gay-oriented hotels are cutting rates in hopes of getting this crowd hooked on Key West and returning year after year.
