The Benwood wreck lies on the outer reef about 1 1/2 miles north of French Reef. The Norwegian freighter sank April 9, 1942. It was sailing at night without lights because of the danger of German submarines, and was rammed by the Robert C. Tuttle Heading for shore it sunk by the stern. The bow is in 45' of water and the stern rest in 300' of water. You start your dive on the bow and work your way down the ship. At the end of the dive be careful going back to the surface because of the heavy boat traffic in the area.
