The Elbow
Diver Skill Level  Novice  Depth 12 - 35 Feet  Current (none to strong)
Scuba Diving, Key West, Florida KeysThe most popular dives  on the Elbow are on its wrecks, with their abundance of fish. There are three major wrecks on the reef. The Tonawanda sunk in  1866. It is the most northern and rest offshore, with its metal hull. The City of Washington is a schooner that sunk in 1917. It lies just offshore of the tower. The Civil War Wreck sits just north of the tower. With the remains of its wooden hull held together with iron fasteners. Of these three the schooner is the most visited. Its broken metal hull gives a nice backdrop to picture taking of the fish that call this wreck home.

Scuba Diving, Key West, Florida Keys
The Christ of the Deep Statue is 9' tall and cast bronze. It was sculpted by Egad Cress in Italy and donated to the Underwater Society of America. The statue is a duplicate of the Christ of the Abysses statue that rest in 50' of water off Genoa Italy. The Christ Statue is one of the most photographed sites in the world. This is an easy dive the statue sits on a sandy bottom in 25' of water. The diver can explore in either direction along the reef following the sand cannels that run out from the center. A word of caution on this dive diver should note the current and plan the dive accordingly. With the heavy boat traffic in the area you want to surface near some corral that reaches close to the surface near your boat.
