Key West

Take it easy in Hemingway's Key West
Earthtimes, UK - Jan 7
Is it 4 pm or maybe already 5? Nobody cares much as details like that are unimportant on the island of Key West on the southernmost tip of America.

BIG PINE KEY, Florida Keys -- Folk, bluegrass, country, traditional offerings and original tunes by Florida Keys performing songwriters are to highlight the musical menu

Just Possibly the Best Place for Doing Nothing
New York Times  Dec 28
It’s tempting to think of the Lower Keys, a roughly 36-mile stretch of Florida islands between Marathon and
Key West, as something of a lonesome no-man’s land.

A blast from our past

OVERSEA RAILROAD WILL OPEN MONDAY
New York Time
Jan 21, 1912

Key West is rapidly filling up with visitors for the opening of the "oversea" railroad on Monday.
Every steamer is bringing its quota of passengers. There is much activity all over the city, and
decorators are busy embellishing the buildings.

The Ocean Key Resort is a deluxe hotel located 2 miles from the Key West International Airport, overlooking Mallory Square in Old Town on historic Duval Street. Spacious, tropical, art deco deluxe rooms are carefully detailed and include all of the modern amenities that guests have come to expect. No one would blame you for confusing Ocean Key Resort with a hotel in the Caribbean.

From its spectacular ocean view to its island decor, the hotel has captured the essence of the tropics. In June 1998, the resort began undergoing a $10 million renovation, which was finished in the Fall of 2000, transforming Ocean Key into an upscale resort with luxurious accommodations, fine cuisine and superior guest service. The hotel is minutes to fine dining, shopping and entertainment.

Private balconies or terraces offer spectacular ocean and city panoramas. Hand-painted armoires, delightful furnishings and wonderful artwork fill the rooms with a sense of warmth and fun. Bathrooms have whirlpool tubs, separate showers and pedestal sinks. Each room has its own climate control. And suites offer fully-equipped kitchens with everything you need to enjoy snacks or prepare gourmet meals.

For those of you who may be visiting Key West for the first time you may want to keep in mind that the island is
rather small a little less than 2 x 4 miles. This means there that you are never far form everything Shopping, Beaches, Restaurants and the Key West Night Life. If you drove in you will find parking can be the only real pain if you are coming downtown but there are plenty of pay parking lots in the downtown area. If you did not drive nothing is more than a 10 or 15 minute Cab drive. Please note that the bars in Key West do not close until 4am so please drink responsibly.
