Offshore
Fishing
The approach to offshore fishing has changed during the past several years with heavy tackle and fighting chairs giving way to modern, light tackle techniques. Today's informed angler demands speed, versatility, and a technical edge, unlike the slow, one dimensional, hit or miss approach of yesteryear. Whether trolling with artificial or drifting with live baits or kite fishing, light tackle offers the angler more of a hands-on form of playing the fish and after all, isn't that what big game fishing is all about...the fight? More versatile, modern, center consoled boats now fill the Almost There! Charters fleet, and for good reason. These highly efficient boats cover the distance to the fishing grounds quicker, allowing our anglers much more valuable lines in the water time with out giving up any creature comforts. Every offshore boat in the fleet has T-tops or cabins, with rest room facilities, seating, and large, stocked coolers. Once you experience the thrill of light tackle offshore fishing, you will never pick up a heavy rod again.
The Atlantic Ocean is Key West playground, known by the Almost There! Charters captains as "out front". Offshore light tackle fishing is the pinnacle of the sport. Matching wits with giant open ocean pelagic fish is addictive. Never knowing what will come up behind the trolled baits, skimming along the deep blue water offshore is unnerving to say the least. Throughout the year, Key West enjoys numerous migrating species which keep our captains on the water every day, searching for signs of fish activity such as diving birds, weedlines and color changes critical to locating Marlin, Sailfish, Mahi-Mahi, Tuna, Wahoo, Cobia, and King Mackerel, to name just a few.
