A Tour of Fort Jefferson at the
Dry Tortugas National Park

Key West Parks Dry Tortugas National Park

The Fort has a self guided Tour that takes you up and
around all three levels. You just follow this Civil War
solider. The tour takes less than a hour. It is not
Wheelchair accessible. Just to the right as you walk
in the Fort is a Visitor Center with a short 5 min. movie
about the forts history. Some displays from years gone by.
You will also find a bookstore with odds and ends for sale.

Many of the building on the interior
have been lost due to fire or obsolescent then dismantled. Giving
the inside of the Fort a much more open space then in years past.

As you walk around the first and second levels you pass
though archway after archway. Each in its day
was a resting place for the forts cannons. You will come across the old
bakery, the forts chapel, and the cell Dr. Mudd was kept.

The view out these openings are a lot better now than those the
men in the years past got to see.
